reflection

This piece I have developed from the December Show. My December Show was just a model without any storytelling. At first I didn't think that a chair could represent anything. But the other day my mum sent me some photos she had taken on her travels and one of them was of a wooden stool in a dilapidated room that was starting to rot. I remembered that my old house also had a room like that, abandoned and used to pile up miscellaneous things. My grandfather was the only one who lived in such a large, empty room, and it was only during holidays that the place seemed to come alive. I couldn't help but think of the many old people in China who don't want to leave the land of their birth and stay in their hometown all their lives, while the younger members of the family have gone to the big cities to work or go to school. Most of these elderly people live alone in their homes, so their belongings are very monotonous. The desk and cupboard in a small scene in the December Show can be used in my new scene - a shabby cottage with a desk, a chair, a shabby bookcase and a few books. I wanted this scene to be set in a way that conveyed the feeling of loneliness more I kept the windows and added a small courtyard, hoping that the view from the courtyard would also reflect the loneliness of the occupants. And with only one chair I wanted to convey straightforwardly that there is only one person living here and that there are no visitors. All the occupant can do is read a book or look out of the window and spend the day in monotony.
"Death is not end of life, forgetting is." So I wanted to use this work as a reflection.

What could be improved
Starting with the courtyard, the part of my courtyard break wall is still not realistic enough, the break I made is still too neat, I should have made each row more different in length and I could have glued grass between the brick joints of the break wall, or painted dirt, moss or something like that. On the window frames I think the green algae I glued on could be of different sizes so that it doesn't look particularly out of place and more like natural growth. For the interior part of the wall I think the peeling effect could be achieved by applying two or even three coats of white acrylic after the grey base colour so that the base colour is not destroyed when the white layer is cut away. In terms of lighting I would try using warm orange lighting, which would mimic the sunlight, or even take it outside and use it.
